Mexico's Facundo Cadaval suffered a sore thigh after 7 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The supporters of Mexico booed when FC Hamburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thoralf Blohm didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lautaro Mancebo struck a weak shot in the 9th minute. Volker Harm didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pompiliu Roşculeţ, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 16 minutes Mexico's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Hendrik Holletschek who took care of the corner kick. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Joel Gaona managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mexico's supporters rose to their feet, but Joel Gaona was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Volker Harm breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 26 minutes into the match, FC Hamburg's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Volker Harm reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 27 minutes, Eduard Hilpert mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Hamburg and the Mexico players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, FC Hamburg's Eduard Hilpert got a free kick in the 27th minute. Mexico's Joel Gaona got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Pompiliu Roşculeţ had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Laurențiu Cinteză's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 37thth minute, Dante Lacasa skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Volker Harm made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 42nd minute of play. A collision led to Mexico getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Lautaro Mancebo hit a great ball.

Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Markus Heimrath in the 57th minute of play. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hendrik Holletschek in the 60th minute of play. 66 minutes into the match, FC Hamburg's goalkeeper Volker Harm had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alberto Tafalla. 67 minutes into the match, FC Hamburg's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Tafalla came free, but Volker Harm reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Laurențiu Cinteză received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Dante Lacasa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ilkay Gündoğan in the 78th minute of play. FC Hamburg made a substitution. Richard Otte replaced Pompiliu Roşculeţ. Mexico were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
