But to his dismay, Hernán Leandro quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. In the 9th minute Lautaro Mancebo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ruperto Rainerio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 10 minutes Leon Platense's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Joel Gaona who took care of the corner kick. After 11 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Leonardo Leoz. Constantino Anaya struck a weak shot in the 12th minute. Dante Lacasa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Leon Platense. In the 19th minute, Luca Rouco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Facundo Cadaval in the 22nd minute of play forced Leon Platense's goalkeeper Ruperto Rainerio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 24 minutes into the match, Leon Platense's goal looked a bit too open when Luca Zorita came free, but Ruperto Rainerio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ruperto Rainerio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 29th minute of play. Ruperto Rainerio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 42 minutes into the match, Leon Platense's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Ruperto Rainerio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Ruperto Rainerio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 65th minute of the match. Leon Platense's Gonzalo Adrio was substituted for Teodoro Honrio. Leon Platense made a substitution. Klaas Alberts replaced Alfonso Kemen. The supporters of Mexico booed when Leon Platense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Celso Havier didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 94 minutes, Alberto Tafalla managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mexico's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alberto Tafalla was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
