If Luis Andino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. João Massa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 10th minute of play. In the 12th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but João Massa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 13th minute. A nice corner shot did that Daniel Zorita got away a dangerous shot. Despite this João Massa quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Therkild Prendorf received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 26th minute the ball was on its way in behind UFC STEAUA's goalkeeper João Massa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 68th minute, Nelson Mendoza got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Cristian Sancho's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but João Massa firmly grabbed it by the left post.
