The supporters of Ecuador booed when River de Ramos Mejía was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alejo Maties didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, River de Ramos Mejía's Pedalas Peca got a free kick in the 16th minute. Cristian Sancho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Eleuterio Maureo having to make a save. Eleuterio Maureo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. In the 28th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eleuterio Maureo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 30th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 32nd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eleuterio Maureo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A very nice done corner allowed Felix Montes to score against Eleuterio Maureo in River de Ramos Mejía's goal. 0-1 after 33 minutes. In the 38th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eleuterio Maureo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Christian Weets could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. After having played for 47 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 51st minute. Eleuterio Maureo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Luis Andino got a free kick in the 55th minute. After 57 played minutes River de Ramos Mejía got a freekick which was hit by Celestino Eli. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Cristian Sancho hit a great ball. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 61st minute of the match, but Eleuterio Maureo made a huge save. River de Ramos Mejía's Eleuterio Maureo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to save River de Ramos Mejía from getting a goal against them. In the 64th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Alejo Maties kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. Felix Montenegro kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eleuterio Maureo having to interfere. In the 81st minute, Gabriel-Omar Batistuta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Angelo Grabiel, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Angelo Grabiel went, in the 85th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Eleuterio Maureo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 93rd minute. After having played for 95 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
