Radomir Gerlach fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. In a very dangerous position, a player in Venezuela fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 40th minute. Penalty! Tomas Illescas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sture Abrahamsson having to interfere.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tomas Illescas to make the kick off. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Haritz Trespuentes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
