Daniel Zorita scored 0-2 in the 13th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Stojko Živko, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Stojko Živko took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tonko Grković might have been able to make a better finish in the 26th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 87th minute after Maksimir's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felix Montenegro got free with Stojko Živko in the 88th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Stojko Živko tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 92 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita notched a goal, 1-9, to the right of Maksimir's Stojko Živko. Stojko Živko was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Maksimir.
