Ivo Guterres came out of the goal and Patricio Costa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Abílio Passos got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 20 minutes into the match, Abílio Passos had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Abílio Passos was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. After 24 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Salvador Gisbert. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Raul Leal, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Through an outstanding action, after 31 minutes, Jonathan Ferrant successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 33 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Raul Leal came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alex Chicote charged in rather forcefully in the 39th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alex Chicote the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Abílio Passos in the 48th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Raul Leal managed to get in a good position for a shot. SC Freiburg 09's supporters rose to their feet, but Raul Leal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jose Correa's late challenge caught a SC Freiburg 09's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jose Correa helped the player get up and apologised. Nuno Bragança sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. SC Freiburg 09 fully deserved thier win.
