Joel Gaona struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Gilberto Boone didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mexico. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maurice Odonnell in the 19th minute of play. Joel Gaona scored 0-1 in the 23rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gilberto Boone, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 26 minutes into the match, Varennes's goal looked a bit too open when Lautaro Mancebo came free, but Gilberto Boone reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Erwin Gay's late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Erwin Gay helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Varennes getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Erwin Gay hit a great ball. After having played for 29 minutes, Joel Gaona managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mexico's supporters crossed their fingers, but Joel Gaona was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maurice Odonnell, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gilberto Boone showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lautaro Mancebo in the 34th minute of the match. In the 38th match minute, Varennes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Seth Luke to maneuver through the defense. Gilberto Boone took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joel Gaona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Alberto Tafalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Seth Luke got free with Dante Lacasa in the 45th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After the first half Mexico were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Joel Gaona was the one to do the kick off. Lautaro Mancebo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Gilberto Boone tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Bernardo Goudreau fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dante Lacasa having to interfere. Wendell Petit made a great header on Varennes's corner, it was just that Mexico's Dante Lacasa managed to reach the ball for a save. Varennes's Gilberto Boone proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save Varennes from getting a goal against them.
