Archie Ares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. In the 15th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alan Moruga to maneuver through the defense. After 16th play minutes Qu Wei shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Benito Sanz and just under the crossbar into goal. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Qu Wei went, in the 21st minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Proteu were awarded a corner in the 27th minute after Costa Rica's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gernando Nunes took the corner. The corner led Proteu's Gernando Nunes to fire away a dangerous shot which Benito Sanz despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 29th minute Qu Wei shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Archie Ares went, in the 33rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. A collision led to Proteu getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Denílson Tepedino hit a great ball. Eliseo Noboa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 44th minute, Archie Ares made a precise shot to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-4. After the first half Proteu were leading 0-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Qu Wei to make the kick off. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Qu Wei in the 57th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. 58 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Archie Ares came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Archie Ares received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Benito Sanz came out and tried to block the shot, but Archie Ares slotted it home off the left post making it 0-5 in the 61st minute. Eliseo Noboa hit a great freekick 63 minutes into the match. Qu Weis short, quick shot in the 64thth minute got Benito Sanz to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Juan Rubio hit a great ball. Alexander Carballo's late challenge caught a Proteu's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alexander Carballo helped the player get up and apologised. In the 67th minute, Alexander Carballo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match clock showed 69 minutes, the score became 0-6 when Qu Wei sped through Costa Rica's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. In the 72nd minute, Archie Ares ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-7. Qu Wei in the 89thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Benito Sanz, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Archie Ares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Proteu's supporters rose to their feet, but Archie Ares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benito Sanz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The Costa Rica fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Proteu were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
