With an extended leg and a bit of luck 龙挺卫 prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 45th minute of play forced Vejbystrand's goalkeeper 龙挺卫 to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 47th minute Sonny Karlberg shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Vejbystrand made a substitution. Alex Burton replaced Sonny Karlberg. The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. Cristian Sancho who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 83rdth minute tested the skills of 龙挺卫 when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Cristian Sanchos short, quick shot in the 85thth minute got 龙挺卫 to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Vejbystrand made a substitution. Birger Hammarbäck replaced Joachim Anselius. After 90 played minutes Vejbystrand got a freekick which was hit by Birger Hammarbäck. 94 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Alex Burton came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Vejbystrand's 龙挺卫 proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 96th minute of the match, managed to save Vejbystrand from getting a goal against them. When the referee blew the final whistle, Vejbystrand could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
