Aykut Nadi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 7th minute of the match, but Marco Day made a huge save. Diego Bradley made in the 9th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Edward Mcdonald. In the 10th minute Monty Rogers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Şemsettin Tuyuğ saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. KOCAELİSPOR's Şemsettin Tuyuğ played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cassius Byrne in the 12th minute of play. Şemsettin Tuyuğ took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cassius Byrne, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A hard shot 44 in the game by Ömer Demirci from a close distance when the talented Marco Day managed to make a qualified save. USA's players were relieved. Şemsettin Tuyuğ stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Edward Mcdonald's shot from short distance in the 46th minute. Monty Rogers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Şemsettin Tuyuğ having to interfere. The KOCAELİSPOR players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. USA were winning 0-1.

Monty Rogers's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Şemsettin Tuyuğ read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play.
