Spectators: 45 (Terracing: 35, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Ecuador's Daniel Zorita started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roberto Eger in the 23rd minute of play. 24 minutes into the match, Paraná Clube PG's Roberto Eger sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Oswaldo Velloso in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bob Holz was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

After 53 minutes of play, Paraná Clube PG's Roberto Eger made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. But to his dismay, Daniel Zorita quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Roberto Eger received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ernani Rosa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Paraná Clube PG's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oswaldo Velloso came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Roberto Eger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
