Eric Soned showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Agustín Saelices in the 19th minute of the match. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Eric Soned played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 23rd minute of play. Eric Soned took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 31 minutes into the match, Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's goal looked a bit too open when Agustín Saelices came free, but Eric Soned reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eric Soned showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. The throw-in from Camilo Gisbert in the 34th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Radu Fetea. When Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Nickolai Nickerson in the 36th minute got a chance for a shot 36th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ecuador's goalie prevented a goal. After a defensive mix-up in Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eric Soned came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 40th minute, Cristian Sancho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After the first half Ecuador were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 56th match minute, Étoile Sportive Du Sahel was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlo Ancelotti to maneuver through the defense. In the 62nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's goalkeeper Eric Soned, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 66 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Eric Soned narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Nickolai Nickerson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's supporters rose to their feet, but Nickolai Nickerson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jim Njurenius, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. After having played for 71 minutes, Valentin Elg managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nickolai Nickerson in the 74th minute of play. With his leg Eric Soned managed to avoid a goal in the 76thth minute, when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Eric Soned tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 82nd minute Jim Njurenius shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 91 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Radu Fetea was slow to take the kick. During this time Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's players had a chance to rest. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Radu Fetea was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Julio Vera in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in.
