Ecuador's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Leonel Caponi stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute Leonel Caponi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Leonel Caponi in the 52nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Club Atlético Escocia's Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 57th minute of the match, managed to save Club Atlético Escocia from getting a goal against them. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Many of Ecuador's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but Club Atlético Escocia were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
