When Luis Andino came up free with the goalie in the 27th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luis Andino couldn't finish the play. With an all-out effort, S.C.PAULISTA's Julio Vera threw himself towards the right post 32 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from César Eger, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 34th minute of the match S.C.PAULISTA got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag.
