Daniel Zorita hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. The supporters of Diablos FC booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julio Vera was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Sydney Alcântara. Kaviedes Arrese in the 23rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Julio Vera, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. In the 28th match minute, Diablos FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Moises Suane to maneuver through the defense. João Vítor de Amorim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 30th minute of play. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Diablos FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sydney Alcântara was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Felix Montenegro in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck João Vítor de Amorim prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Reimundo Casado in the 39th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Reimundo Casado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 47th minute of the match, Reimundo Casado tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Julio Vera saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kaviedes Arrese in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Despite being the better team, Ecuador failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
