In the 28th minute Gwidon Cwojdak shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Guillermo Mariano fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Guillermo Mariano a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Guillermo Mariano hit a great ball. Gwidon Cwojdak might have been able to make a better finish in the 34th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jonathan Ferrant. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gwidon Cwojdak ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience was convinced that Gwidon Cwojdak's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonathan Ferrant was relentless in the 42nd minute of the game. With a little luck, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Arthur Bufi got control of the ball when Tomas Illescas tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a free kick in the 46th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-4 lead.
The wind increased when Gwidon Cwojdak made the kick off in the second half. Arthur Bufi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 53 minutes Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Tomas Illescas who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Venezuela's Tomas Illescas to fire away a dangerous shot which Arthur Bufi despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from 余永川 in the 56th minute of play. Isidro Ferman struck a weak shot in the 64th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cruzeiro Esporte Clube. Arthur Bufi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 65th minute of play. 70 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Gwidon Cwojdak came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 73rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 78 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Gwidon Cwojdak came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Arthur Bufi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 81st minute of play. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. A throw-in in the 85th minute of the game was made by Valeriu Toacsen with 余永川 as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Arthur Bufi didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Tomas Illescas went, in the 94th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-4 was the resulting score. The Cruzeiro Esporte Clube supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Cruzeiro Esporte Clube would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
