Chile's supporters rose to their feet, but Pedro Indiano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Amerigo Muzi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thiago Pliego was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Luiz Gustavo do Valle showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 38 minute of play. After a rather tough play, Chile's Felix Garrido got a free kick in the 43rd minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Amerigo Muzi was a little too slow when Mariano Lacasa got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 62nd minute. The score was now 1-1. Mariano Lacasa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After a rather tough play, Floripa Lions FSCMZ's Aloísio Castro got a free kick in the 67th minute. Floripa Lions FSCMZ made a substitution. Gilberto Sousa replaced Aloísio Castro. A collision led to Floripa Lions FSCMZ getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Aloísio Castro hit a great ball. The corner led Floripa Lions FSCMZ's Pedro Luís Alvarenga to fire away a dangerous shot which Thiago Pliego despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Thiago Pliego showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilberto Sousa in the 89th minute of the match. Thiago Pliego showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Carlos Alagoano, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. If Orlando Casaus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Gilberto Sousa in the 95th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Thiago Pliego prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Floripa Lions FSCMZ's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Pedro Luís Alvarenga in the 97th minute. The corner ended in Pedro Luís Alvarenga almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Chile's Thiago Pliego did a great save. Chile's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
