After a defensive mix-up in Peru's zone, Paolo Rossi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rolando Noboa came out of the goal and Paolo Rossi tried to chip the ball over his head. Peru's Eliseo Mina quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. 41 minutes into the match, Montesacro FC's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Giacomo Casanova reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 45th minute of the match Peru got a corner. Montesacro FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Luz Tejedor ran over to the corner to take the kick. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Paolo Rossi managed to get in a good position for a shot. Montesacro FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Paolo Rossi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
