Spectators: 47 (Terracing: 36, Seating: 11, VIP seats: 0) Club Atlético de Newell's Sebastian Percival started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute of the match Club Atlético de Newell got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Albert Gamble ran over to the corner to take the kick. Club Atlético de Newell were awarded a corner in the 5th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Albert Gamble took the corner. After taking down the ball on Club Atlético de Newell's corner Albert Gamble fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind Club Atlético de Newell's goalkeeper Dušan Ančic, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 12th minute of play forced Club Atlético de Newell's goalkeeper Dušan Ančic to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pastor Eufemio in the 16th minute of play. Club Atlético de Newell's Dušan Ančic proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Club Atlético de Newell from getting a goal against them. After a defensive mix-up in Club Atlético de Newell's zone, Felix Montenegro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dušan Ančic came out of the goal and Felix Montenegro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpected shot in the 27th minute by Felix Montenegro got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After a defensive mix-up in Club Atlético de Newell's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dušan Ančic came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Club Atlético de Newell's Dušan Ančic played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 34th minute of play. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sebastian Percival in the 38th minute of play. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Dušan Ančic didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dušan Ančic showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luis Andino, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Sebastian Percival in the 55th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A nice corner shot did that Albert Gamble got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Agustín Saelices hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. Club Atlético de Newell made a substitution. Ken Roberts replaced Devon Howson. In the 61st match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agustín Saelices to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a free kick in the 67th minute. Club Atlético de Newell's Casey Harban was substituted for Arbi Newell. Club Atlético de Newell made a substitution. Amanda Hoffs replaced Vince Haywood. In the 68th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Daniel Zorita to maneuver through the defense. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
