Jaime Cazalla was slow to take the kick. During this time Uruguay's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Uruguay's Jaime Cazalla to fire away a dangerous shot which Ertaç Bilek despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. With a little luck, Estudiantes de La Plata's Ertaç Bilek got control of the ball when Francisco Seco tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 25th minute, Alberto Gisbert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The Uruguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joaquin Gayoso should have stopped the shot. If Filomeno Flor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joel Hitzeder kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. After having played for 42 minutes, Filomeno Flor managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Estudiantes de La Plata's supporters crossed their fingers, but Filomeno Flor was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 43rd minute, Francisco Seco got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Joel Hitzeder made a kick off. Ertaç Bilek made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Francisco Seco in the 51st minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Filomeno Flor during the 53rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Uruguay booed when Estudiantes de La Plata was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ertaç Bilek prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Lázaro Anaya fell near the penalty area in the 66th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Estudiantes de La Plata's protests and gave Lázaro Anaya a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Estudiantes de La Plata's Lázaro Anaya got a free kick in the 66th minute. Estudiantes de La Plata's Hugo Cebrian was substituted for Gaudencio Berasko. After 68 played minutes Estudiantes de La Plata got a freekick which was hit by Lázaro Anaya. 70 minutes into the match, Estudiantes de La Plata's goal looked a bit too open when Francisco Seco came free, but Ertaç Bilek reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Maximiliano Escribano in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ertaç Bilek saved Estudiantes de La Plata from getting behind. Ignacio Valente hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. After having played for 90 minutes, Francisco Seco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Uruguay had won after a very even match.
