When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. Charlie Hennenberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. After 19 minutes, Severino Azevedo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Leão de Judá and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. Severino Azevedo hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. Ecuador's Luis Andino got a good chance for a goal in the 20th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 26 minutes into the game, Cristian Sancho cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Charlie Hennenberg was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristiano Azevedo in the 29th minute of play. Charlie Hennenberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 32nd minute of play. 36 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Agustín Saelices sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Charlie Hennenberg narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Charlie Hennenberg read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 37th minute of play. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristiano Azevedo, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 43 minutes into the game, when Juan Sebastián Puig put in a rough tackle. In a very dangerous position, a player in Ecuador fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 42nd minute. Penalty! Cesinha Pitta shot the penalty kick right outside the post. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

53 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Cristiano Azevedo came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 54th minute Caetano De Bruyne shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Caetano De Bruyne managed to get in a good position for a shot. Leão de Judá's supporters rose to their feet, but Caetano De Bruyne was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Leão de Judá's Caetano De Bruyne got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Agustín Saelices could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 65th minute of the match, but Charlie Hennenberg made a huge save. After 69 played minutes Leão de Judá got a freekick which was hit by Severino Azevedo. The supporters of Leão de Judá booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Agustín Saelices didn't get a good kick on the ball. 79 minutes had been played when some careless play by Leão de Judá's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Charlie Hennenberg quite easily take care of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Charlie Hennenberg in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ecuador were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
