The crowd rose to their feet as Manchester United FC's Valdemar Kuoppala slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Julio Vera. That made the score 1-0 after 25 minutes of play. After 29 minutes of play, Manchester United FC's Taisto Pentsinen made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! 33 minutes into the match, Agustín Saelices had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Edwin van der Sar. Manchester United FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Agustín Saelices was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. In the 41st minute, Luis Andino left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-2 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Valdemar Kuoppala stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Edwin van der Sar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Taisto Pentsinen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Manchester United FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Taisto Pentsinen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Edwin van der Sar made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Taisto Pentsinen in the 72nd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alfred Laulaja sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Manchester United FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-2. Valdemar Kuoppala received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Manchester United FC players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
