Lautaro Puig might have been able to make a better finish in the 9th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Emilian Pora. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Lautaro Puig ran back to his position shaking his head. Abel Carballo hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Sergiu Corcoveanu tried to sneak it across the goal line. 17 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Iustin Jităreanu. In the 41st minute of the match, Emilian Lera tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Benito Sanz saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After 44 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alexander Carballo. Sergiu Corcoveanu was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 44th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Axel Tasis stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Lautaro Puig came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lautaro Puig couldn't finish the play. Mihai Doicaru helped the player get up and apologised. After 69 played minutes Armata 2003 Cluj-Napoca got a freekick which was hit by Mihai Doicaru. Axel Tasis struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Emilian Pora didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Costa Rica. Lautaro Puig sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Marian Covrig was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 94 minutes into the match. Marian Covrig kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Axel Tasis managed to get in a good position for a shot. Costa Rica's supporters rose to their feet, but Axel Tasis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Emilian Pora breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
