In the 20th minute Patricio Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ignatius Casasola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 24 minutes into the match, Garanhão do SUL's goal looked a bit too open when Tomas Illescas came free, but Ignatius Casasola reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Torcato Rebocho in the 25th minute of play. Garanhão do SUL were awarded a corner in the 26th minute after Venezuela's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Cassiano Telinhos took the corner. After taking down the ball on Garanhão do SUL's corner Akis Kefallinos fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Jonathan Ferrant quite easily take care of the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Tomas Illescas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ignatius Casasola breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Tomas Illescas who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 32ndth minute tested the skills of Ignatius Casasola when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 33 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when António Gama came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ignatius Casasola made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tomas Illescas in the 34th minute. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edgar Costa in the 43rd minute of play. After the first half Garanhão do SUL were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Edgar Costa was the one to do the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Edgar Costa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Edgar Costa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Edgar Costa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from António Gama, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Illescas in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ignatius Casasola prevented the ball from getting in the gole. António Gama recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save Venezuela from getting a goal against them. Albano Leizarraga in the 66thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Jonathan Ferrant, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Jonathan Ferrant made a fantastic save in the 68th minute, when Akis Kefallinos sent off a good shot on target. 69 minutes into the match, Tomas Illescas had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ignatius Casasola. Garanhão do SUL's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomas Illescas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Albano Leizarraga in the 76th minute. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amado Vigário, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomas Illescas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Garanhão do SUL played a much better game than Venezuela and deserved their victory. The Venezuela players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
