Ignatius Casasola showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 15th minute of play forced Garanhão do SUL's goalkeeper Ignatius Casasola to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 21 minutes into the game, Edgar Costa lined in a short shot 1-0 behind a frustrated Julio Vera. Salvador Lousada hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. In the 27th match minute, Garanhão do SUL was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Torcato Rebocho to maneuver through the defense. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ignatius Casasola read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. Edgar Costa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ignatius Casasola took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aloísio Garcez kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. Edgar Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Edgar Costa went, in the 46th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ignatius Casasola made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 57th minute. After 57 played minutes Garanhão do SUL got a freekick which was hit by Torcato Rebocho. 61 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Edgar Costa came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Garanhão do SUL's defense didn't have a chance, in the 63rd minute, when Daniel Zorita scored to the left of an out of position Ignatius Casasola, making the score, 2-1. Garanhão do SUL made a substitution. Amado Vigário replaced António Gama. Garanhão do SUL made a substitution. Angel Edorta replaced Salvador Lousada. After 66 played minutes Garanhão do SUL got a freekick which was hit by Angel Edorta. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felix Montenegro got free with Ignatius Casasola in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 71st minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Garanhão do SUL's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 72nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Garanhão do SUL's goalkeeper Ignatius Casasola, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Felix Montenegro hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Ignatius Casasola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 75th minute of play. After some careless play in the Garanhão do SUL defense, Luis Andino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ignatius Casasola. The Garanhão do SUL fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ignatius Casasola should have stopped the shot. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Albano Leizarraga in the 80th minute of play. Ignatius Casasola made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 84th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amado Vigário in the 88th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 93 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ignatius Casasola made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-3. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Garanhão do SUL.
