Willi Tilmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 6th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. In the 14th minute Agustín Saelices shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernd Yuschni saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 22nd minute, Cristian Sancho made a precise shot to the right of Bernd Yuschni. Hannover Reds's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Daniel Zorita in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Bernd Yuschni saved Hannover Reds from getting behind. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Camilo Gisbert hit a great ball. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Emilio Argina tried to sneak it across the goal line. Markus Thalberg hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. 38 minutes had been played when some careless play by Hannover Reds's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. With his leg Julio Vera managed to avoid a goal in the 43rdth minute, when Hannover Reds's Emilio Argina fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Bernd Yuschni made a fantastic save in the 50th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. In the 52nd minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emilio Argina, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daniel Zorita's late challenge caught a Hannover Reds's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Daniel Zorita helped the player get up and apologised. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Willi Tilmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bernd Yuschni having to interfere. Ecuador's Felix Montes was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Bernd Yuschni in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Bernd Yuschni made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montes in the 81st minute. Felix Montess short, quick shot in the 81stth minute got Bernd Yuschni to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 83rd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernd Yuschni saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Bernd Yuschni firmly grabbed it by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emilio Argina in the 90th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
