Rodrigo Massó made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 38th minute of play. After 38 minutes of play, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Rodrigo Massó was left in no man's land by his defense there! Agustín Saelices fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rodrigo Massó having to interfere. The supporters of Ecuador booed when PLUMIN was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Silvano Orlan didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Juan Sebastián Puig during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Juan Sebastián Puig hit a great ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cirilo Salvino stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Teobaldo Peli fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Agustín Saelices sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rodrigo Massó made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 58th minute. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Delmiro Mel's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 71st minute of play. 77 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gerardo Berto came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Simon Ferrer in the 78th minute of play.
