Mexico were awarded a corner in the 10th minute after Lanús's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Joel Gaona took the corner. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Laureano Pelayo, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. If Joel Gaona had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 16 minutes of play, Mexico's Joel Gaona made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Alvaro Regis was left in no man's land by his defense there! Alvaro Regis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joel Gaona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luca Zorita kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. If Facundo Cadaval had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Mexico's Alberto Tafalla in the 24th minute got a chance for a shot 24th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The corner led Mexico's Joel Gaona to fire away a dangerous shot which Alvaro Regis despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Alvaro Regis made a fantastic save in the 28th minute, when Lautaro Mancebo sent off a good shot on target. Alvaro Regis was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Lautaro Mancebo showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 28 minute of play. Alvaro Regis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Gaona in the 31st minute of play. Mexico's Leonardo Leoz suffered a sprained foot after 32 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Esteve Ixaka's late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alberto Tafalla fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alvaro Regis having to interfere. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Joel Gaona to strike the kick off in the second half. Alvaro Regis was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of Mexico booed when Lanús was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Esteve Ixaka didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Lanús defense, Joel Gaona kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alvaro Regis. The Lanús fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alvaro Regis should have stopped the shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Facundo Cadaval managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mexico's supporters rose to their feet, but Facundo Cadaval was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alvaro Regis breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Luca Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Alvaro Regis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lanús's Alvaro Regis played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 74th minute of play. Alberto Tafalla sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Alvaro Regis was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a defensive mix-up in Lanús's zone, Lautaro Mancebo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alvaro Regis came out of the goal and Lautaro Mancebo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Joel Gaona fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alvaro Regis having to interfere. In the 88th minute, Luca Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Alvaro Regis was frozen by the shot and now it was 9-0. Alvaro Regis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 91st minute of play. Alberto Tafalla blasted a shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alvaro Regis having to make a save.
