Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Lamine Yambao in the 4th minute a chance for a shot on goal. Marcos Cotilla was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 21 minutes, Ramón Negri mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Clube Atlético Mineiro and the Panama players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Clube Atlético Mineiro booed when Panama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abraham Alguacil didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Panama getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Alex Cambeiro hit a great ball. In the 37th minute, Tomas Berganza reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of José Maria Carvalho. The goal made the score 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Romário Ronaldo in the 40th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Isidoro Sarmiento could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but José Maria Carvalho made a huge save. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jude Bellingham stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Clube Atlético Mineiro's zone, Abraham Alguacil stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. José Maria Carvalho came out of the goal and Abraham Alguacil tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. José Maria Carvalho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abraham Alguacil in the 63rd minute of the match. Tomas Berganza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 68 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Jude Bellingham came free, but Marcos Cotilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marcos Cotilla made a fantastic save in the 71st minute, when Romário Ronaldo sent off a good shot on target. After 76 minutes of play Clube Atlético Mineiro's Ramón Negri was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 77th match minute, Clube Atlético Mineiro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ramón Negri to maneuver through the defense. In the 78th match minute, Panama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Miguel Miralles to maneuver through the defense. 79 minutes into the game, Jose Carita was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Panama's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Clube Atlético Mineiro the free kick. A collision led to Panama getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Clube Atlético Mineiro to win.
