After a defensive mix-up in Peru's zone, Augusto Saldanha stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rolando Noboa came out of the goal and Augusto Saldanha tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Pedro Velloso struck a weak shot in the 31st minute. Rolando Noboa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gracie Barra. In the 34th minute of the match, Eliseo Mina tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Falcão Cunha saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. A collision led to Gracie Barra getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. 柯锋真 hit a great ball. After 40th play minutes Augusto Saldanha shot 2-1, a short shot which went by Rolando Noboa and just under the crossbar into goal. When Augusto Saldanha came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Gracie Barra fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Augusto Saldanha couldn't finish the play. Augusto Saldanha's late challenge caught a Peru's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Augusto Saldanha helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Gracie Barra getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Augusto Saldanha hit a great ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

The supporters of Peru booed when Gracie Barra was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rubens Rezende didn't get a good kick on the ball. It was Eliseo Mina who took care of the corner kick. 97 minutes had been played when some careless play by Gracie Barra's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Eliseo Mina was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Eliseo Mina almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Gracie Barra's Falcão Cunha did a great save. Despite being the better team, Peru failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
