An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Gaona in the 15th minute of play forced Fluminense DF's goalkeeper Carlisle Schultz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fluminense DF were furious when Pierre Hopgood was red carded, 17 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. Carlisle Schultz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. After the first half Mexico were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Carlisle Schultz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 52nd minute of the match. The supporters of Mexico booed when Fluminense DF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Osvaldo Furlan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Luca Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 65th match minute, Mexico was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lorenzo Cazalla to maneuver through the defense. 68 minutes into the match, Fluminense DF's goalkeeper Carlisle Schultz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lautaro Mancebo. 69 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Caio Travassos came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 81st minute the ball was on its way in behind Fluminense DF's goalkeeper Carlisle Schultz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 83 minutes into the match, Fluminense DF's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Carlisle Schultz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
