Oscar Saldanha took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Berganza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Isidoro Sarmiento fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Oscar Saldanha having to interfere. After having played for 23 minutes, Abraham Alguacil managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Panama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Abraham Alguacil was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 24 played minutes Squadra Demarchi got a freekick which was hit by Nelson Vidal. In the 27th match minute, Panama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aaron Barrios to maneuver through the defense. The Squadra Demarchi fans' excitement grew in the 29th match minute when Squadra Demarchi's Kléber Queirós looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. 33 minutes into the match, Claudinho Pinho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Marcos Cotilla. Panama's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Claudinho Pinho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. Squadra Demarchi's Oscar Saldanha proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Squadra Demarchi from getting a goal against them. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Abraham Alguacil blasted a shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Oscar Saldanha having to make a save. If Kaká Simão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Squadra Demarchi's Oscar Saldanha played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Isidoro Sarmiento in the 94th minute of play.
