Jacinto Cuadrado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 14th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jacinto Cuadrado read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 43rd minute of play. But to his dismay, Daniel Zorita quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Boca Juniors's Jacinto Cuadrado did a great save. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rolando Amorebieta in the 83rd minute of play. Jacinto Cuadrado made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 87th minute. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Luis Andino hit a great ball. Hitzeder Manrique took the ball and in the 89 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. In the 93rd match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Sebastián Puig to maneuver through the defense. 94 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Luis Andino sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacinto Cuadrado narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
