With a left leg Silas de Andrade saved Los Hornos from getting behind. 12 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's Saturnino Curcio sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Silas de Andrade narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Los Hornos's Silas de Andrade played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Matias Bilintx in the 13th minute of play. Los Hornos were awarded a corner in the 17th minute after Sporting de Gijón's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Justino Amato took the corner. Los Hornos's Justino Amato was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Óscar Cordoba in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 19th minute Dário Prada shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Matias Bilintx received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Silas de Andrade tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jon Yost hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. Saturnino Curcio took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 29th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Silas de Andrade. Los Hornos's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 31 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ghitã Butuc. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dário Prada in the 38th minute of the match. Silas de Andrade made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matias Bilintx in the 39th minute of play. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 42nd minute of the match, managed to save Sporting de Gijón from getting a goal against them. 43 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Dário Prada came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The corner ended in Justino Amato almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba did a great save. After a rather tough play, Los Hornos's Jon Yost got a free kick in the 97th minute. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Los Hornos fans cheered their team off the field, for while Sporting de Gijón had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
