In the 5th minute, Linus Fredriksson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Marlin FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matias Bilintx in the 8th minute of play forced Marlin FC's goalkeeper Juan Carlos Alvarez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Óscar Cordoba was out of position in the 13 minute of play, and Dionisio Panpili capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Dionisio Panpili really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. Juan Carlos Alvarez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diego Maradona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Juan Carlos Alvarez came out of the goal in the 16th minute to try and stop a shot by Sporting de Gijón's Diego Maradona. But to his dismay, Diego Maradona quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. After a defensive mix-up in Marlin FC's zone, Matias Bilintx stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Juan Carlos Alvarez came out of the goal and Matias Bilintx tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Giovanni Rana received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Óscar Cordoba came out and tried to block the shot, but Giovanni Rana slotted it home off the left post making it 3-1 in the 23rd minute. A collision led to Marlin FC getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Jeronimo Sotil hit a great ball. Dionisio Panpili came free with the goalkeeper in the 29th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Óscar Cordoba could save by the left post. After 35 played minutes Marlin FC got a freekick which was hit by Fermin Arixo. In the 37th minute Diego Maradona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Juan Carlos Alvarez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Aybek Orcun hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Linus Fredriksson in the 44th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when Marlin FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giovanni Rana didn't get a good kick on the ball. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Carlo Crema replaced Venancio Emesto. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Matias Bilintx to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 66th minute Fermin Arixo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wayne Rooney kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. Marlin FC made a substitution. Roberto Calixto replaced Ismael Iglesias. In the 70th match minute, Sporting de Gijón was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wayne Rooney to maneuver through the defense. Marlin FC's Aybek Orcun couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 71st minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Sporting de Gijón. 76 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Fermin Arixo came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 80 minutes into the match, Giovanni Rana had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Óscar Cordoba. Sporting de Gijón's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Giovanni Rana was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-2. Sporting de Gijón's Carolo Ovando was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Matias Bilintx in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Juan Carlos Alvarez prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Óscar Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aybek Orcun, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Óscar Cordoba made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fermin Arixo in the 94th minute of play. For all the effort they put into the match, the Sporting de Gijón players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Marlin FC.
