The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fredrik Hylander, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. A collision led to Victoria getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Emanuel Avellino hit a great ball. The supporters of Victoria booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lautaro Puig didn't get a good kick on the ball. 9 minutes into the game, Victoria's Fredrik Hylander nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. In the 20th minute, Victoria's Emanuel Avellino ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Victoria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vasco Veloso didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Alan Moruga fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Alan Moruga a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Alan Moruga hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 35 minutes, Emanuel Avellino put it in 3-0 from a short distance just to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emanuel Avellino in the 41st minute of play. After 41st play minutes Emanuel Avellino shot 4-0, a short shot which went by Benito Sanz and just under the crossbar into goal. Alexander Carballo took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 47th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Tommy Cauchi. Victoria's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Emanuel Avellino stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Lautaro Puig sent away a hard shot on goal in the 50th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fredrik Hylander, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Victoria booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nestor Eleder kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, Axel Tasis managed to get in a good position for a shot. Costa Rica's supporters rose to their feet, but Axel Tasis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tommy Cauchi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Liu Yuan Cheng had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 84th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alexander Carballo to maneuver through the defense. Efrain Moruga's late challenge caught a Victoria's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Efrain Moruga helped the player get up and apologised. After 88 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alan Moruga. Victoria's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
