Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jelte Bleiswijk in the 20th minute of play. 24 minutes in the game Macos Graciani did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Luca Zorita. 26 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Jelte Bleiswijk came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 28th minute Alberto Tafalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thanasis Koltsidas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 31 minutes of play, Mexico's Joel Gaona made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Mexico's Joel Gaona managed to work through AEK S.C's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Joel Gaona dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. 36 minutes into the match, Jelte Bleiswijk had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dante Lacasa. Mexico's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jelte Bleiswijk was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Lautaro Mancebo made in the 44th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Alberto Tafalla however managed to control. After the first half Mexico were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Jelte Bleiswijk made the kick off in the second half. Dante Lacasa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kevin Carreira in the 52nd minute of the match. In the 53rd minute Jelte Bleiswijk shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 59th minute of the match Lautaro Mancebo sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Thanasis Koltsidas skillfully saved the ball. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Donzel Goyeneta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luca Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Thanasis Koltsidas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jelte Bleiswijk in the 68th minute of play. Thanasis Koltsidas made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 70th minute. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kevin Carreira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Mexico defense, Donzel Goyeneta kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dante Lacasa. The Mexico fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dante Lacasa should have stopped the shot. Dante Lacasa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The AEK S.C players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
