An unexpectedly hard shot by Bebeto de Carvalho in the 23rd minute of play forced Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Bebeto de Carvalho in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jacobo Nores saved Paraguay from getting behind. Silvinho Monteiro made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jaime Pardo in the 39th minute. Jacobo Nores showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Greg Marshall, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. Bebeto de Carvalho hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. 44 minutes into the match, Paraguay's goal looked a bit too open when Bebeto de Carvalho came free, but Jacobo Nores reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Itapeipu AD's Silvinho Monteiro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Itapeipu AD from getting a goal against them. Paraguay's Jacobo Nores played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bebeto de Carvalho in the 46th minute of play. Jacobo Nores showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bebeto de Carvalho in the 48th minute of the match. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Bebeto de Carvalho to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute of the match Primitivo Escribano sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Silvinho Monteiro skillfully saved the ball. Paraguay's Jacobo Nores played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bebeto de Carvalho in the 61st minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Greg Marshall got free with Jacobo Nores in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Hector Covarrubias's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Silvinho Monteiro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. Bebeto de Carvalho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Jacobo Nores made a huge save. Jacobo Nores made an important save on a dangerous shot by Greg Marshall in the 72nd minute. If Bebeto de Carvalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paraguay's Jacobo Nores proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 75th minute of the match, managed to save Paraguay from getting a goal against them. After a rather tough play, Paraguay's Primitivo Escribano got a free kick in the 76th minute. Greg Marshall struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Jacobo Nores stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bebeto de Carvalho's shot from short distance in the 79th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bebeto de Carvalho in the 81st minute of play forced Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hector Covarrubias kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. 86 minutes into the match, Itapeipu AD's Valdomiro Marquez sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacobo Nores narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 89th play minutes Bebeto de Carvalho shot 0-4, a short shot which went by Jacobo Nores and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 96th minute Bebeto de Carvalho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacobo Nores saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Itapeipu AD walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
