Bruno Steiner recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Olympique Fribourg's manager was very thankful on the sidelines as his team had managed to keep the ball out of the net after some serious pressure by Ecuador.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Florian Plouffe was the one to do the kick off. Matt Metzger's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Tristan Arioli in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Raik Topuz came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Olympique Fribourg fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Raik Topuz couldn't finish the play. Camilo Gisbert was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 75 minutes into the match. 75 minutes into the game, one of Ecuador:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty.
