Criciúma's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Didi Almeida in the 10th minute. Valdir Fonseca made a great header on Criciúma's corner, it was just that Paraguay's Jacobo Nores managed to reach the ball for a save. After 16 played minutes Paraguay got a freekick which was hit by Juan Diego Tenorio. 19 minutes into the game, Jaime Pardo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Paraguay's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Criciúma the free kick. Jacobo Nores didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Didi Almeida went, in the 24th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Didi Almeida fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacobo Nores having to interfere. Jaime Pardo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. José de Brito tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 31st minute Didi Almeida shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacobo Nores saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tobias Tham scored 0-2 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jacobo Nores, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Criciúma's José de Brito proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Criciúma from getting a goal against them. After the first half Criciúma were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jaime Pardo to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Alan Campos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Criciúma's Didi Almeida got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 54th minute, Moisés Pombal hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Didi Almeida sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 66th minute Jaime Pardo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but José de Brito saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Criciúma's Didi Almeida in the 67th minute got a chance for a shot 67th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Paraguay's goalie prevented a goal. Criciúma's Tobias Tham got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alan Campos kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. Criciúma's José de Brito played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hector Covarrubias in the 80th minute of play. A collision led to Paraguay getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Ivan Prats hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Didi Almeida in the 88th minute of play forced Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the final whistle went the supporters of Criciúma were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Paraguay side.
