Gavino Raymundo came out and tried to block the shot, but Julian Murillo slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 31st minute. When Helge Bäck fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Julian Murillo got free with Gavino Raymundo in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A sloppy throw-in by Lokman Oğuzbay in the 47th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Peru's Alonso Berganza. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

In the 94th match minute, Peru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antonio Tenorio to maneuver through the defense. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Peru fully deserved thier win.
