Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dündar Ülkenur in the 26th minute of the match. With a little luck, Los Tatangelos's Yağızalp Özerkmen got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorge Figueiredo in the 46th minute of play. 48 minutes into the game, Vural Esay was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Los Tatangelos's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. After 48 played minutes Los Tatangelos got a freekick which was hit by Vural Esay.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half.
