Eddy Huijgens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 22nd minute of the match. In the 24th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eddy Huijgens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Blue Beast's Eddy Huijgens played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 26th minute of play. In the 28th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eddy Huijgens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Eddy Huijgens didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. 31 minutes into the game, Blue Beast's Antonio Cempeners nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Julio Vera made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. 37 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Antonio Cempeners. Felix Montenegro might have been able to make a better finish in the 39th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eddy Huijgens. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Felix Montenegro ran back to his position shaking his head. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. Ecuador's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Antonio Cempeners fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Eddy Huijgens in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Eddy Huijgens showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Primitivo Andino hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 68 minutes, Felix Montenegro put it in 1-4 from a short distance just to the right of Eddy Huijgens. Antonio Cempeners might have been able to make a better finish in the 70th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Antonio Cempeners ran back to his position shaking his head. 74 minutes in the game, Cristian Sancho fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Eddy Huijgens having to interfere. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 82 minutes, Dany Bastin mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Blue Beast and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Blue Beast was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dany Bastin didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cristian Sancho might have been able to make a better finish in the 84th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Eddy Huijgens. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cristian Sancho ran back to his position shaking his head. Niki Van Den Hout hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. Eddy Huijgens was a little too slow when Felix Montenegro got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 89th minute. The score was now 1-5.
