After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Hector Covarrubias managed to get in a good position for a shot. Paraguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Hector Covarrubias was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rex Willets breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 22nd minute Fitz Beck shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacobo Nores saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thom Butcher charged in rather forcefully in the 25th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Thom Butcher the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Thom Butcher hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vinnie Hedley stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Vinnie Hedley hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. In the 52nd minute of the match Alan Campos sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rex Willets skillfully saved the ball. With a little luck, Paraguay's Jacobo Nores got control of the ball when Martyn Sheene tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Vinnie Hedley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 66th minute, Vinnie Hedley fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Jacobo Nores, passed just outside the right post. Jaime Pardo was slow to take the kick. During this time Paraguay's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Paraguay's Juan Diego Tenorio to fire away a dangerous shot which Rex Willets despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. After 73 minutes of play Paraguay's Xavier Zoido was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Hector Covarrubias sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
