The crowd rose to their feet as Julian Murillo kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Luisito Quinten. That made the score 1-0 in the 26 minute of play. Julian Murillo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Luisito Quinten made a huge save. Luisito Quinten made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Julian Murillo sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Peru booed when Lyons was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcos Berasko didn't get a good kick on the ball. Milagros Fraga sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Boleslaw Zielinski made the kick off in the second half. Lyons's supporters rose to their feet, but Dariusz Roano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rolando Noboa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
