Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Nelsinho Leite tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 20th minute after Vascogoianiense FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. When Felix Montenegro fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ecuador's protests and gave Felix Montenegro a yellow card for diving instead. Felix Montenegro hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Pirani in the 23rd minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Daniel Zorita in the 27th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nelsinho Leite prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 35 minutes into the match, Gilmar Monteiro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gilmar Monteiro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. 40 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Aírton Sousa came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Felix Montes got a free kick in the 41st minute. In the 48th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Vascogoianiense FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

If Gilmar Monteiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aírton Sousa in the 71st minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nelsinho Leite breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Pirani in the 76th minute of play. Nelsinho Leite made a fantastic save in the 80th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Vascogoianiense FC getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of João Pirani's shot from short distance in the 87th minute. After 91 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Aírton Sousa who took care of the corner kick. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from João Pirani went, in the 94th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. When the referee blew the final whistle, Vascogoianiense FC could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
