Spectators: 43 (Terracing: 33, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Palestra do Interior's Nelsinho Marinho started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, Palestra do Interior's David Vale got a free kick in the 7th minute. After some careless play in the Palestra do Interior defense, Cristian Sancho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Antônio Carlos Cavalcante. The Palestra do Interior fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Antônio Carlos Cavalcante should have stopped the shot. Palestra do Interior's Ronaldo Pirani got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Serafim Simão during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Serafim Simão hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. After 26 played minutes Palestra do Interior got a freekick which was hit by Nelson Xavier. Palestra do Interior's Antônio Carlos Cavalcante played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 28th minute of play. When David Vale fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Palestra do Interior's protests and gave David Vale a yellow card for diving instead. David Vale hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Nelsinho Marinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Agustín Saelices blasted a shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Antônio Carlos Cavalcante having to make a save. Peder Neira hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Christiano Palmeira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Palestra do Interior's Antônio Carlos Cavalcante got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 60th minute of play forced Palestra do Interior's goalkeeper Antônio Carlos Cavalcante to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 65 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Ronaldo Pirani came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 67th minute, Cristian Sancho left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-4. In the 72nd match minute, Palestra do Interior was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Delfim Quintal to maneuver through the defense. 79 minutes into the match, Palestra do Interior's goalkeeper Antônio Carlos Cavalcante had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante made a fantastic save in the 81st minute, when Agustín Saelices sent off a good shot on target. Pau Lin-Carlos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Christiano Palmeira fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Palestra do Interior's protests and gave Christiano Palmeira a yellow card for diving instead. Christiano Palmeira hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. Cristian Sancho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 86th minute of the match, but Antônio Carlos Cavalcante made a huge save. Christiano Palmeira kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match. After having played for 89 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nelson Xavier in the 94th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee felt a red card was in order, 96 minutes into the game, when Antonio Arias put in a rough tackle. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
