Antônio Carlos Cavalcante showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. 19 minutes into the match, Palestra do Interior's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Tafalla came free, but Antônio Carlos Cavalcante reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Felix Luque's late challenge caught a Palestra do Interior's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Felix Luque helped the player get up and apologised. In the 38th minute, one of Mexico:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Mexico. Mexico:s Dante Lacasa showed great skill when he stopped Nelsinho Marinho:s penalty. Alberto Tafalla kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

A collision led to Palestra do Interior getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Peder Neira hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Palestra do Interior's zone, Joel Gaona stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante came out of the goal and Joel Gaona tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Alberto Tafalla showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-1 in the 77 minute of play. After 82 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Leonardo Leoz. After 89 minutes, Pau Lin-Carlos mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Palestra do Interior and the Mexico players grew even worse after the yellow card.
