The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. David Vale kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Palestra do Interior. In the 17th minute Mariano Lacasa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Antônio Carlos Cavalcante saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Chile booed when Palestra do Interior was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Peder Neira didn't get a good kick on the ball. A very good chance for a goal. 38 minutes into the match, Chile's Mariano Lacasa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Antônio Carlos Cavalcante narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 44 minutes of play, Chile's Mariano Lacasa made it 0-6 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ronaldo Pirani to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the game, Christiano Palmeira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Palestra do Interior's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chile the free kick. A collision led to Palestra do Interior getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. In the 55th minute, Mariano Lacasa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 57 minutes into the match, Palestra do Interior's goalkeeper Antônio Carlos Cavalcante had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mariano Lacasa. 58 minutes into the match, Chile's goal looked a bit too open when Ronaldo Pirani came free, but Thiago Pliego reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mariano Lacasa in the 61st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Antônio Carlos Cavalcante prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Palestra do Interior's Delfim Quintal was substituted for David Vale. Mariano Lacasa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Antônio Carlos Cavalcante made a huge save. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante made an important save on a dangerous shot by Orlando Casaus in the 77th minute. Palestra do Interior's Antônio Carlos Cavalcante proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to save Palestra do Interior from getting a goal against them.
